Get yourself familiar with one car first, make it one that you really like and learn all you can. Once that is done, go for the next one in line and learn everything you can about that car.
Get a workshop manual for the car that Dad has and perform some supervised maintenance on it.
You might want to meander over to the local garage and make friends with the mechanic and the boss. Tell them of your desire to learn.
